This week has been a week of birthdays for friends and family here and at home. Queenie’s on the 21st shared with my mother (sadly no longer with us), Maire, David's sis-in-law at home in Dublin. Maddie -Katherine’s daughter back home in the UK. Anetta’s sister in the US. Mr Dave Cockle, now a ripe old age of 83, and finally very close to home for us here in Turkey, one of our … [Read more...] about Happy Birthday to Yer!

Volta – ring
Sunday, Sunday feels to good to me-so the song goes. Every other day of the week is fine-yeah. Every other day of the week is the same for all us at the moment and for many it’s probably beginning to take its toll, unfortunately. As I’m writing this, I’m sitting in my chair under the shade of a tree with the sea only some 10 feet away from me. The waves are gently lapping … [Read more...] about Volta – ring
Jersey Royals
Saturday saw our third week of static living at Sundance Camping and in all honesty the time has gone fairly quickly. Afternoons are often the slower part as we watch the clock until it’s a decent enough time to open a bottle of wine, but that also seems to be the tale from home as well as wine o’clock gets earlier and earlier. So the coronavirus won’t necessarily be the only … [Read more...] about Jersey Royals
Muzzy’s Place
It’s Sunday morning (15th) and we’re sat in Muzzy’s Place having a cay (tea) with the sun trying to break through over the Greek deserted village Levissi, which provides the main tourist attraction for the small Turkish town sitting just below it-Kayakoy. We are parked in Muzzy’s car park of his small hotel and restaurant complex which looks right up to the ruins, so we … [Read more...] about Muzzy’s Place
BUSTed!!
Since February it has been carnival season in Greece and they have celebrated it in a variety of ways, according to the local region. Monday here was their first day of Lent and it’s called Clean … [Read more...] about BUSTed!!
Love Island (s)
Two contestants, three islands -who will be the winner at the end of the week. Actually, we have never seen an episode of Love Island, but we do love the Greek islands-who doesn’t. We have also loved the Peloponnese mainland as well, but with the four Saronic Gulf Islands just a hop, skip and a boat away who could resist, especially with my replacement battery ready and waiting … [Read more...] about Love Island (s)
Once, Twice, Three Times Souvlaki!
My long term love affair with Greece very nearly ended this week with one of the worse, death defying drives ever, car or motorhome, over several mountain ranges from the lovely ancient walled city of Monemvasia, at the tip of the Peloponnese to Nafplio tucked in a curved bay heading back towards Athens. We had been at another World Heritage site -Mystras, listed ruins of … [Read more...] about Once, Twice, Three Times Souvlaki!
It’s a First
We left Italy with a last feast of home-cooked pork chops, potatoes and two veg, cooked in the port whilst waiting to board. There was some doubt as to whether the chops might have been horse meat as we brought them from a local market, but if they were, they did a good impression of very tasty pork. The sixteen-hour crossing to Patra with Grimaldi Lines remained as ever … [Read more...] about It’s a First
