After 18 months we finally returned to the UK, and have slowly adjusted to ‘Normal’ life whatever that is. We will be updating the site from time to time and will be in inviting fellow adventurers to add some posts, as they add to the knowledge and excitement of Motorhome life.
Elddis have teamed up with two intrepid skiers Hannah and James a.k.a. Winterized.eu and they will be visiting ski resorts throughout Europe in an Elddis Autoquest. We were winter wimps but as soon as it got cold we were warm and cosy with the Encores great heating, but we would always seek out warmer climates whenever possible! These guys are off to seek the cold.
If you would like to meet up with us we will be speaking at the live theatre at the Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC on Saturday and Sunday 21st and 22nd 2.15. It would be lovely to any of you then.
We invite you watch the end of the journey video, made by Elddis with us sadly delivering ‘NiKi’ back to Elddis for the final time before a tearful goodbye.
Welcome to our Adventure
We are David and Karen, The Grey Gappers, two mid fifties people who quit work and took a later life gap year. The idea of taking a year out when we were 55 was decided at the end of our first travel adventure in 2004 – 05 when we went around the world. The where and how we would work out later. Setting off on David’s 55th birthday in January 2016 we finally arrived back in the UK in June 2017 after an 17 month adventure covering 10 countries.
Below is the route with all the stops we took both in Spain and on the ‘Long Way Home’. if you click on each icon yoiu will get the GPS location a pretty picture of the van and a short review of each stop. We hope it might help you on your journey.
The map of all the overnight stops we took, with reviews of each, on our Long Way Home Adventure
Here is a map of all our overnight stops in Spain, we hope they help you with your adventure.
We were extremely fortunate to have been given a loan by Elddis one of their top of the range Encore motorhomes, to do the trip in and we are very grateful to them for this. We will talk about all aspects of the trip and the blog will be warts and all. So if the van falls apart you will read about it here! So far we have had few issues with the van.It has turned out to be very well-built. We have broken two of the door shelves on the fridge, Not designed for heavy wine bottles maybe. David managed to crack the floor of the shower, and a few screws worked loose. these are all now sorted and given that we have been on the road for over a year. We can recommend the Encore to anyone who would like a luxury well-built motorhome.
