So here we are, 30 days before we leave, 10 years of planning and saving, finally it will be real. The Motorhome is coming we head up to the Elddis Factory in Consett next Wednesday to pick up our home for the next year.
Even though we are both Grey Gappers, David more than Karen we are like children before Christmas. The excitement is nearly too much for us.
So next Wednesday the 16th we will be proud temporary owners of an Elddis Encore motorhome. It will then get a road test of its life as it travels to Spain for the year on the 8th January David’s 55th birthday, we will travel to Santander directly from Portsmouth. From there we head straight to Vejer de la Frontera, near Cadiz to go back to school for two weeks and try to add to the Spanish we have learned here. The plan being we will explore the ‘undiscovered’ Spain so with a bit of luck we will be able to communicate with the people we meet and not play charades every day!
In the meantime we will have just under 4 weeks to get used to our new home. Load up what we want to take and then check we have not over loaded it.
So for those of you that are interested here are some basic bits of information about our new home.
It is 7.408m / 24’4” long, 2.690m / 8’10” wide and 2.820m / 9’3” high and internally it has 2.030m / 6’8” headroom so David does not have to duck!
It has a fixed double bed that is 6’3” long, central heating, kitchen with gas oven and hob and a fridge freezer, Shower room and toilet. For the full specification click here.
So all in all not roughing it at all.
As we mentioned we have planned this for over 10 years since our last big trip in 2004/05. On that trip we had our one and only motorhome adventure in New Zealand, and have always planned on what we called our ‘Campervan 55’ adventure. We have been extremely fortunate to partner up with Elddis the UK’s largest manufacturer of motorhomes and caravans to road test their Encore 254 for a year. In New Zealand we really liked the freedom a motorhome gave us to explore and go when we wanted, and where we wanted.
So follow us on this journey and perhaps be inspired to start one of your own.
